George was a counselor to John Young in the High Priest Quorum.  He was a missionary to Boston and also later to Great Britain in 1849. In 1869 he was called to the Eastern States mission.

In 1860 he was second counselor to President Daniel Spencer, and in 1866 he was first counselor to him. In 1873 he was president of the Salt Lake Stake.  From 1877 to 1900 he was president of the High Priests in Salt Lake Stake.  He was in charge of the Territorial Farm.  He was a carpenter, builder, contractors, and nurseryman.  He helped build the Salt Lake Temple and was active in church and civic callings all his life.
